Hol Chan and Secret Beach
Hol Chan Secret Beach is a tour that has both snorkeling and some time on the famous Secret Beach by boat instead of driving through the road. Hol Chan and Secret Beach day tour includes holchan marine reserve, shark ray, coral garden, and secret beach and you could also even do a sunset if requested.
The tour starts by you meeting us at our tour center or pick up at your resort. Once on board, it is about 15 minutes to our first snorkeling stop, known as Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Holchan is a Maya word that means "small channel". Here, our tour guides will distribute your snorkeling equipment to everyone and show you how to properly use it. Also, you will get a briefing on how the snorkeling will be conducted and the rules and regulations we will need to follow. We will spend approximately an hour. There are a lot of schools of fish, like snappers, horse eye jacks, spotted eagle rays, and many more. It's like being inside a huge aquarium. The water depth is 8 feet. Our second stop is snorkeling with the puppies of the sea, the nurse shark. Nurse sharks are bottom feeders, not predator sharks. At Shark Ray Alley, you can enjoy seeing them from the boat, or you could get in the water to enjoy their company. The third stop is the Coral Garden. Coral Garden is a beautiful patch reef system about one mile long. There are a lot of coral formations all over the place, like elk horn coral, brain coral, and sea fan, just to name a few. Here you have the choice of anchoring, swimming, returning to the boat, or drift snorkeling. Drift snorkel in any direction you like, and the captain will keep his distance and follow you until you are ready. Once you are ready, the captain will pick you up where you are. Once on board, there is about a 30-minute boat ride to Secret Beach, where you can purchase your lunch and choose from many restaurants and bars located there. Secret Beach is a very popular place located on the west side of the island of Ambergris Caye. Is about 8 to 9 miles away from San Pedro town. Secret Beach is visited because of the beautiful crystal-clear water. 80 percent of the time, it is calm, and there is no seagrass bed there. It is a sandy bottom at an average depth of 3 to 8 feet. You could stay at the secret beach as long as you like. Sunset is available once requested at no extra cost. Once you are on board and ready to head back to your resort or hotel, it is just 30 to 40 minutes, depending on where you are staying on the island. On this day, you choose the starting time and the returning time. For each activity, you could stay as long as you like. You could start as early as 8 a.m. to sunset.
