After a brief 15-minute boat ride, you'll arrive at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, named after the Maya word for "small channel." Our experienced guides will provide snorkeling equipment and offer a safety briefing, ensuring you're prepared for your underwater adventure. Your first snorkeling stop at Hol Chan will immerse you in a vibrant marine ecosystem. Explore the reserve's depths, teeming with schools of fish like snappers, horse-eye jacks, spotted eagle rays, barracudas, nurse sharks, butterfly fish, and angel fish. It's like swimming in a giant aquarium! The water here is relatively shallow, averaging around 8 feet deep. Next, you'll encounter the gentle giants of the sea: nurse sharks. These bottom-feeders are harmless and offer a unique opportunity for close encounters. You can observe them from the boat or choose to snorkel alongside these fascinating creatures. After your morning adventures, you'll have the option to take a break and explore San Pedro town or return to your resort for lunch. Alternatively, you can continue your snorkeling journey to Mexico Rocks. This marine reserve is divided into three sections: the lower and upper patch reef systems, and Stingray Alley. At Mexico Rocks, you'll discover a diverse underwater world. Snorkel over patches of coral surrounded by a variety of marine life, including snappers, stingrays, parrot fish, angel fish, butterfly fish, and spiny lobsters. Each stop will last approximately one hour, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of this underwater paradise. Following your snorkeling adventures, you'll relax and unwind on the boat before heading to the upper patch reef. Here, you'll have another chance to encounter schools of sergeant majors, snappers, and groupers, and you may even be lucky enough to spot a green sea turtle. Your final stop is Stingray Alley, where you can snorkel with a group of Caribbean and southern stingrays, along with a few nurse sharks. The water here is shallow, making it easy to enjoy extended encounters with these fascinating creatures. At the end of your tour, we'll return you to your resort, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your underwater exploration.
